Release international Youth Platform activists kidnapped by Turkish authorities in Istanbul
The CPGB-ML joins all progressive and anti-imperialist workers in condemning the brutal kidnapping of young comrades who were attending a youth camp organised by the World Anti-imperialist Platform in Istanbul. This action comes as imperialist leaders prepare to converge for the annual Nato conference in Ankara next week (7-8 July).
The only crime of the arrested youth is to have engaged in educational and solidarity activities aimed at understanding and opposing the headlong imperialist drive into global war. This latest arrest follows an earlier clampdown on Turkish youth and trade union activists, 43 of whom were rounded up in recent days. In total, more than 500 people have been arrested in a large-scale, orchestrated campaign of pre-emptive arrests, carried out under the pretext of ‘national security’. Many of those arrested remain incarcerated.
As with the arrests of Kenyan citizens and Platform leaders in Nairobi in May, we note that the actions of the fascistic Turkish authorities on behalf of the Nato imperialist bloc explicitly violate their own country’s constitution, which guarantees freedom of political and academic thought.
By such actions, the imperialists are only making it clearer to all that they cannot be trusted to stick to their own rules or agreements, and that the war drive is now their highest priority. The inescapable contradictions of the system of global capitalism makes their lust for profit above all else more urgent than ever. They will not be satisfied until they have drowned the working people in oceans of blood.
This is what forces the world’s masses to turn to the struggle for socialism as the only means of securing lasting peace, security and equitable development.
