SKOJ IN OSLO: Anti-imperialist Demonstrations Against the Nobel Prize Awarded to María Corina Machado

The delegation of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) and the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ), led by NKPJ General Secretary comrade Aleksandar Banjanac, participated on December 10 in anti-imperialist demonstrations in Oslo against the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado.

During the demonstrations on December 10, comrade Aleksandar Banjanac delivered a speech emphasizing that he comes from a country bombed by the NATO pact and that the NKPJ had come to express solidarity with the people of Venezuela and to highlight the true nature of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize.

María Corina Machado is a pro-imperialist opposition leader from Venezuela who opposes President Maduro’s government and calls for U.S. aggression against her own country. Her “prize” is dedicated to Donald Trump, who is amassing weapons on the Venezuelan border. The act of awarding the Nobel Prize to María Corina Machado represents cynicism and symbolizes the attempt to turn Venezuela into a vassal of American imperialism.

The NKPJ reminds that Norway is a NATO member, and therefore the Nobel Peace Prize Committee cannot award prizes to genuinely peaceful figures. Awarding this prize to an American citizen, leader of fascist factions, and a person who has called for sanctions and military intervention against her own country represents symbolic support for new military interventions and foreign interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs. María Corina Machado is directly responsible for the deaths of numerous political leaders in Venezuela, which is why the people of Venezuela and Latin America refer to her as a “murderer.”

The anti-imperialist demonstrations were organized by the Norwegian Peace Council, with participation from the Communist Party of Norway and other leftist and anti-imperialist organizations from Europe and around the world. Strong police forces prevented demonstrators from approaching the hotel where María Corina Machado and members of the Nobel Committee were staying, but the message was still conveyed: The united people cannot be defeated; María Machado murderer; Long live Maduro, and Venezuela will prevail!
