SKOJ Calls for KIM IL SUNG street in Belgrade

The League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) has formally requested that the Belgrade City Assembly’s Committee for Monuments, Squares, and Street Names name a street in Belgrade after Kim Il Sung.

As commemoration of the Day of the Sun – the 114th birthday of the founder and President of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) submitted a request to the Commission for Monuments and the Names of Squares and Streets of the Belgrade City Assembly for a street in Belgrade to be named after him. SKOJ also requested that the City of Belgrade erect a bust in his honor.

Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung is a great friend of our people, who maintained close relations both with the President of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, Comrade Josip Broz Tito, as well as with the Yugoslav leadership that governed the country after Tito’s death. President Kim Il Sung visited Belgrade several times, and during one of his visits planted a tree in the Friendship Park in New Belgrade, while in 1984 he was awarded the title of Honorary citizen of our capital.

The DPR Korea itself, founded by Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, has always maintained friendly relations with our people, and the tradition of joint anti-fascist and anti-imperialist struggle dates back to the period of resistance against the Japanese and German occupiers. Today, the DPR Korea not only actively fights against Western hegemony, but also diplomatically supports our country – the DPR Korea does not recognize the independence of the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” and it is also one of 19 countries which voted against the disgraceful UN General Assembly Resolution on the so-called “Genocide in Srebrenica”.

The people of Serbia have a duty to maintain and strengthen friendly relations with socialist and anti-imperialist countries, nations, and movements, among which the DPR Korea stands out as the bright example of a socialist nation that is engaged in an active struggle against imperialism. With the goal of strengthening relations between our two peoples, SKOJ today, on the 114th birthday of President Kim Il Sung, calls on the City of Belgrade to show respect to its Honorary citizen by granting him a street and erecting a bust in his likeness.

May the generations that are coming, both in Korea and Serbia, remember the heroic deeds and wise leadership of Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, as well as the strong friendship between Serbian and Korean peoples, forged in the commons struggle against fascism and imperialism, for socialism!
